February 1990 Set-list from a fairly poor audience recording. At one point you can clearly hear a girl having a go at the taper for standing in front of her (and presumably being a bit tall!). One of the other things you hear her say is that she paid £3.50 for her ticket like everyone else (how things have changed since!). Audience Recording: Full show, 80 mins, Quality B- Kiss This Thing Goodbye Opposite View When I Want You Empty As Soon As The Tide Comes In You're Gone Stone Cold Sober This Side Of The Morning The Ones That You Love Lead You Nowhere Hatful Of Rain The Return Of Maggie Brown You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (one verse only) Nothing Ever Happens Move Away Jimmy Blue Maggie May (cover of the Rod Stewart song) Kiss This Thing Goodbye (reprise) [Return to top] |

| Glasgow Barrowlands - 13 April 1990 Excellent show playing to their home town. For the last two songs, the Dels were joined on-stage by the Katydids, the support band for this short April tour. The Katydids were a London based band fronted by Susie Hug and they produced two albums around 1990, before splitting up. There has been recent interest in the band as Travis are big fans of their work. Susie Hug appeared with Travis on one of the b-sides to More Than Us, and recent reports are that Travis were the backing band for her latest solo album. | Norwich UEA (University of East Anglia) - 7 November 1990 Don't know much about the actual show, but Justin and Dave Cummings did an interview on UEA College radio a couple of days later. It turns out that Dave Cummings used to go to UEA - he graduated in 1981 with a degree in English and American literature. Amongst the things that crop up in the interview are that Justin isn't really looking forward to the gig at Hammersmith Odeon, which is that night (see below). He says he once saw John Cougar Mellencamp play there and the atmosphere was fairly poor. Radio recording: Interview only, 20 mins, Quality A- [Return to top] |
| Hammersmith Odeon, London - 9 November 1990 Don't know very much about this show, but it was reviewed in The Times shortly afterwards. The review can be found here on Alison's Official US site Among the songs played were (predictably): Kiss This Thing Goodbye Stone Cold Sober Scared To Live Nothing Ever Happens Spit In the Rain The most unusual moment though must have been when the band were joined on-stage by Vic Reeves to cover the Free song, Ride on Pony! For those who don't know, Vic Reeves is a comedian famous for Vic Reeves Big Night Out, Shooting Stars, the re-make of Randall & Hopkirk deceased and various other shows with his normal side-kick Bob Mortimer. He also had a UK number one single with the Wonder Stuff, when they covered Dizzy. [Return to top] |
