News update...possible new release in February?
Well, it's been a quiet time recently, but there have been a few things going on. Justin has recorded an album with his old friend Kevin McDermott, under the band name of Uncle Devil Show.
A few promo CDs have surfaced, and some mp3's have been doing the rounds. To my mind, the songs are quirky, b-side type material - not bad, but not as good as we've been used to from Del Amitri.
Anyway the album, entitled Terrible Beauty, is rumoured for release in February 2004.
Secondly, Justin also played a few gigs in the summer with another band, Button Up. They were described as a Scottish "supergroup", and the line up was completed by Proclaimers guitarist Stuart Nisbet and drummer
Ross McFarlane, bassist Gary John Kane and keyboard player Andy May. For more details, have a look at the 2002 page.
Finally, both Justin and Andy Alston have made an appearance on an album by James Kirk, formerly of the eighties Scottish group, Orange Juice (and nothing to do with Star Trek!). You may remember that Orange Juice had
a top ten hit back in 1983 with "Rip It Up" (although that was after James Kirk's departure from the band).
There are some more details and some sound clips here . If you are really interested, you can get the album from Amazon, but I must admit that it doesn't sound much cop from the clips...
There have also been two recent releases of old material....
Firstly, there has been a new "Greatest Hits" compilation released by A&M, entitled
The Best of Del Amitri - 20th Century Masters, The Millenium Edition. This features the following tracklisting.
Roll To Me
Kiss This Thing Goodbye
Hatful Of Rain
Stone Cold Sober
Nothing Ever Happens
Always The Last To Know
When You Were Young
Just Like A Man
Driving With The Brakes On
Here And Now
Not Where It's At
Cry To Be Found
This compilation has only been released in the US, but you can purchase it via either the US or UK amazon sites.

You can hear streaming previews of all the b-sides and a couple of the album tracks via the official UK site www.delamitri.co.uk
You can also still listen to the band's 2001 Christmas song, Celebrity Christmas. It's hardly a classic, but it's an amusing song that takes the mick out
of numerous celebrities ranging from the likes Geri Halliwell and Sir Cliff Richard to Alan Titchmarsh and Jamie Oliver. You can view the full lyrics of the song here.
The single and album releases were then followed by a short UK tour in May 2002:
May 2 Oxford Apollo
May 3 Liverpool Royal Court
May 4 York Barbican
May 6 Cambridge Corn Exchange
May 7 Birmingham Academy
May 8 Newcastle City Hall
May 9 Glasgow Barrowlands

Sound Files
You can find some sound files below - the aim is to put a new song
up every couple of weeks or so (okay, being realistc every couple of months or so!). If anyone
has any requests then let me know. Please
note that all tracks will be live
recordings from shows I have - no mp3's
will be made from albums or singles due
to copyrights. I'll mainly be
concentrating on cover versions and
alternative versions that have not been
released and so you may not have heard
before.
These recordings are meant to supplement
the fans music collection and in no way
act as a substitute for official releases.
If anyone has any objections to these
files, please let me know and I will
remove them.
To listen to these files you will need an mp3 player such as WinAmp, which you can download from here.
You may also want to check out this page by John Masterton - John has encoded 6 tracks from an early Dels show to mp3.
Another couple of new tracks below, both inspired by some recent chat on the UK bulletin board. Firstly there was talk about how the band's sound, and Justin's voice changed dramatically between the first
and second albums. So here are two of the very earliest live versions of Waking Hours tracks:
1. When I Want You 3:51 mins, 1.32Mb
Live from the Marquee, London, 5 December 1986, the first time this song was ever played live.
2. This Side Of The Morning 3:12 mins, 1.10Mb
Live from the Marquee, London, 23 January 1987.
Also prompted by discussion on the bulletin board, here's a radio interview done for college radio at UEA (University of East Anglia), 9 November 1990. Not great quality, but it keeps the file size reasonable, and is definitely worth a listen.
3. UEA Interview 15:47 mins, 2.03Mb
Finally, still uploaded is the FULL appearance from the Billy Sloan show on Radio Clyde, 3 March 2002.
1. Chat part 1 2:31 mins, 1.01Mb
2. Just Before You Leave 4:50 mins, 1.93Mb
3. Chat part 2 3:10 mins, 1.27Mb
4. Cash and Prizes 4:21 mins, 1.74Mb
5. Chat part 3 7:54 mins, 3.16Mb
6. She's Passing This Way 2:48 mins, 1.12Mb
7. Chat part 4 2:13 mins, 0.91Mb
8. Tell Her This 3:08 mins, 1.26Mb
9. Chat part 5 2:30 mins, 1.00Mb
10. Always The Last To Know 3:37 mins, 1.45Mb
11. Chat part 6 2:04 mins, 0.85Mb
12. Be My Downfall 3:49 mins, 1.53Mb
13. Chat part 7 1:48 mins, 0.74Mb
