Original John Peel Demo Tape - 1981 The original (and typically self-deprecating!) letter Justin sent to John Peel was featured in the sleeve notes to Hatful Of Rain as follows: Dear Mr Peel, We are Del Amitri from Glasgow and since this recording of Footfall we have been unable to rehearse due to accomodation problems, that is why I'm sending you this tape to you now (incase we never exist again). This tape includes the rather shoddy recording of Footfall, the only song we managed to get recorded on the Revox in the half-hour it was leant to us. The rest is recorded live on a portable Stereo Recorder and there are some exceedingly boring snipets of guitar from the recording of Footfall, indeed if you listen to all of this tape we apologise for wasting your time. Footfall can be heard on the end of this tape as well after the other rubbish. The 'songs' on this tape appear in this order: 1. Footfall 2. One (Live) 3. Boring Rot 4. Walk On Tacks (Live) 5. Footfall (Again) The band have been playing their guitars for 2 months. We can be contacted at 334 5475 if not then 942 3404 if not then 942 3513. Justin Currie If anyone knows any further details about this tape or any of songs featured please let me know. [Return to top] |

The band line-up at the time was: Guitars - James Scobbie & Donald Bentley Bass & Vocals - Justin Currie Drums - Paul Tyagi [Return to top] |

Capitol Radio, London - 11 June 1997 Interview plus three live tracks with full band (described by Justin as a ramshackle performance). The interview talked a bit about the Ben Elton play Popcorn which features a lead character named Bruce Delamitri - some words from the play were then used as the introduction on the tour later that year (see the 1997 page for more details). Not Where It's At Some Other Sucker's Parade Mother Nature's Writing [Return to top] |
WXRT, Chicago, with Lynn Brehmer - 24 June 1997 Interview plus two acoustic tracks. This version of Not Where It's At is a fairly well known one with a mandolin - at the end Justin says 'you sounded a bit like Peter Buck then' (he's the guitarist from REM). |
Buzz 105.1, New York - 31 July 1997 Interview plus two acoustic tracks on the same day as the bands appearance at the Supper Club, New York. For details of the Supper Club show look here. The interview gets quite funny when the American DJ trys to say that Justin's songs are inspired by 'a higher power' - Justin retorts by saying he's an atheist and they're just pop songs! Medicine Not Where It's At [Return to top] |
CD101, Columbus, Ohio - 13 August 1997 Interview plus two acoustic tracks. The subject of Justin's atheism (see above) comes up again. Justin confirms that he doesn't believe in God, but does believe in Darwin (because it sounds feasible, whereas the theory of a strange man on a cloud making the world in seven days doesn't). Not Where It's At Medicine [Return to top] |

Simon Mayo Show, Radio One - 10 June 1998 The band appear as guests on the show live from France, on the day of the Scotland vs Brazil match that opened the World Cup. Much is made of the fact that the band didn't get tickets for the match, despite recording the official Scottish song. Justin also tells of a dream he had where Scotland win 1-0 due to an own goal from the Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos. Ironically (and unfortunately), Scotland lost 2-1 due to an own goal! Played acoustically on the show: Don't Come Home Too Soon You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (cover of the Beatles song) [Return to top] |
Simon Mayo Show, Radio One - 18 June 1998 Another World Cup appearance on the day of the Scotland vs Morocco match, with. an acoustic version of: Don't Come Home Too Soon At the end of the song Justin (and then the crowd) start chanting 'we're going through, we're going through' to the tune of 'Here We Go'. Sadly, it didn't turn out that way! [Return to top] |
Mark Radcliffe Show, Radio One - 18 June 1998 Another World Cup appearance with an acoustic version of: Don't Come Home Too Soon This version includes a snippet from the 1978 Scottish song at the end.... we're on the march with Ally's army.... [Return to top] |
Virgin Radio - 12 August 1998 Interview plus acoustic performance of: Always The Last To Know [Return to top] |
GLR Sessions - 12 August 1998 Another interview plus live tracks featuring the full band. To me this is a fairly ramshackle performance, and the guitar work on High Times sounds very amateurish (sorry guys!). High Times Just Like A Man Always The Last To Know [Return to top] |
Hatful Of Rain Promo CD - Interview & session tracks 1998
![]() A promo interview CD with three acoustic tracks was made to promote the Greatest Hits album. This later surfaced for sale at £200, with the excessive price prompting a boycott of a well known internet music dealer. Always The Last To Know Roll To Me Cry To Be Found [Return to top] |
